The Ports of Stockholm are expanding

null

Ports of Stockholm is developing the entire Värtahamnen, Frihamnen and Loudden area in a joint project with the City of Stockholm. Beginning in the summer 2013 Värtahamnen port will be restructured and extend further into the bay.

For Ports of Stockholm the largest part of this project is the expansion of the Värta Pier. The new pier will be a modern, green and efficient port for ferry and cruise traffic. The primary reason for rebuilding Värtahamnen is that the City of Stockholm needs land to build the new city district, Stockholm Royal Seaport , with shops, homes and offices. For this reason the port will move further out into the bay and this will free-up much of the land the port currently occupies for the city to build on.

The new port will also become more environmentally friendly, it will have a more efficient use of space and there will be a new modern passenger terminal. More facts about the Värta Port project

Frihamnen
The quayside in front of the Magasin 9 building at Frihamnen will be extended by 80 meters. This will make more space available for the cruise ships calling at the port. The work to extend the pier began in November 2011 and will be completed in May2013.
