Record: 11.8 million guestnights in Stockholm 2014

Stockholm continues to be the engine behind the Swedish tourism industry. In 2014, Stockholm reached a new record with 11.8 million guest nights. This is an increase of almost 8 percent compared to the previous year. These are preliminary numbers from the Stockholm Visitors Board.

"Stockholm continues to be a tourist magnet in Sweden and in Europe. With 11.8 million guest nights last year, we are strengthening our position as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. With an increase close to 8 percent, 2014 ranks as one of the strongest years since 2000," says Peter Lindqvist, CEO Stockholm Visitors Board.

Sweden is one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations and one of the fastest growing ones as well. The number of guest nights has doubled over the past 10 years. And it is primarily the international guest nights that are increasing.

"In terms of international guest nights, we see the greatest increase from countries outside of Europe, primarily USA and India. There is also a positive, steady increase from important high-volume markets such as Germany and Great Britain," says Peter Lindqvist.
