Stockholm welcomes Global Public Transport Summit

null

The international congress Global Public Transport Summit, GPTS, has chosen Stockholm for the fourth time in history. The first time international representatives of public transport gathered in Stockholm was in 1896. The congress expects about 15 000 unique visitors. 352 exhibitors from 46 countries will gather at Stockholmsmassan the 9-12 of June.

-We are thrilled to return to Stockholm for the upcoming GPTS. The theme this year is The Art of Public Transport where we in the industry aim to define what the future of transportation will be. We chose Stockholm as we see that public transport is visionary here, says Pere Calvet, president of UITP, Union Internationale des Transport Public. Using public transportation to unite the city’s districts leads to a better environment improving the quality of life for the citizens of Stockholm.

With almost 130 years of history, GPTS proudly remains the world’s biggest event dedicated to sustainable mobility. Covering all urban and regional transport modes across the globe, the summit combines a diverse program of leading congress sessions and an outstanding exhibition representing the latest innovations, solutions and products.

-I am happy to welcome GPTS to Stockholm as result of joint efforts of Visit Stockholm, Stockholmsmassan and the local host Region Stockholm, says Karin Mäntymäki at Visit Stockholm. Recent achievements in the public transport and good relations with the tourism industry gave Stockholm great conditions when inviting GTPS.

The subway system of Stockholm is known for being the largest art exhibition in the world with its one hundred stations, each featuring unique art on its walls, platforms and waiting halls.

-Our continuous investments in public infrastructure, a ticket system based on a flat rate and how we made a competitive tendering of public transport on an unregulated market makes our work interesting for others to take part of, says Jens Plambeck, Region Stockholm. I hope all GPTS visitors and exhibitors have some time off to explore the subway art as well as the beautiful early summer days of the city, offering perfect conditions both for roof top bars and sightseeing.
